Props to Hip-hop Artists Who Last

Jego R. Armstrong of SOHH has a great feature article profiling 5 emcees who showed staying power during the 90's. Here's the intro:

"The new breed of rap featuring Eminem, 50 Cent, Ja Rule and Nelly have taken hip-hop to unforeseen heights in the music industry, but their legacy will ultimately be determined by their longevity. Five artists from the '90s golden era of hip-hop have proven staying power despite the continuous influx of hot, new talent. With a combined 40 albums to date, Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes, Nas, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z have solidified their position in history by being Hip-Hop's Top 5 most durable emcees..."

Jego, what about Gangstarr?? And personally I would have also mentioned the king of longevity- LL Cool J (though since he didnt start in the 90's I guess he doesn't fit in)

Jego responded to blog post:

"Thanks for the nice comments on your site. The only reason I didn't
add LL and Gangstarr is because they both got their start in the '80s.
Plus, Gangstarr has yet to produce a top ten single (hard to believe
eh?).

But without a doubt, if I ever do a top 5, or 10, top artists in hip
hop, best believe those two will be in there. Thanks again.

Peace.

Wasn't Gangstarr early 90's? Can someone varify that?

Let me offer this- Gangstarr dropped their first album in 1989 (No More Mr. Nice Guy) but their career is firmly as a 90's group. I'm not sure about top ten singles but Moment of Truth went gold without a lot of radio play. As for side projects Primo helped both Common and MOP go gold by producing their first popular breakout singles. Also, GURU orchestrated critically acclaimed Jazzmatazz projects.

Gangstarr represent hip-hop success from the ground up. And not only have they've been hip-hop's most durable, their latest album proves they'll be around for many years to come.
