Cannibal OX Breaks Up.
First the Fat Boys, then the Fugees, and now this?
Via all hiphop.com a few hours ago- Cannibal OX breaks up and cancels their tour with Jean Grae. Here's an excerpt from the article:
"This is the second tour we canceled this year," former DJ Anthony "Cip One" Cipriani told AllHipHop.com. "Since leaving Def Jux, Vast and Vordul rarely speak to each other any more. Vast just wants to focus on his solo career."Jean Grae expressed shock at the group members decision to call it quits. Grae was part of the tour, promoting her The Bootleg Of The Bootleg EP.
Jean shouldn't be shocked. These rumors have been floating for over a year. After their incredible first album Vast has been guest listed on tracks around the indie scene and even dropped a solo mixtape, while Vordul has remained relatively MIA.
I'm not happy about this news. I knew Vast was doing a solo joint but I was hoping for at least one more Canox album. These guys got me into indie hip-hop in a big way. They're from my neighborhood (Harlem- what, what!) so I was able to relate to their songs in a way that I hadn't with other artists. Plus, they have a chemistry that doesn't work well when they're apart.
Also, what's wack is that they left Jean Grae hanging at the last minute without a tour. That's disrespect to all the artists, promoters, venues, and especially the fans involved. Cancelling gigs like that plays with a lot of people's money. So right now both Vordul and Vast get the screw face from me.

Holleration
It's a real shame. I did an interview with Vast and Aesop a couple years ago. Here's Part One= www.audiogalaxy.com/articles?&a=240, and Part Two= www.audiogalaxy.com/articles?&a=241. Vast is a wordy mofo, in person and on record, and I imagine a solo from him will be pretty tiring without Vordul to check him once in a while.

All these rumors, some say its over others have a real P.R. savy rebuttle stating their still tight as Englebert Humperdinks velvet flares. This is what I hate about the media and here say in general. What should have been said as of the few hours since the cancellation of the tour was just that, the tour has been cancelled. Then perhaps raise the why, dont rile up the peoples. Shady reporting says me...But it'll change to damn good if it turns out to be true, lets hope its not

The real reason the Jean Grae tour was cancelled was because her management who also manages Can-Ox fucked up by not giving Can-Ox the proper tour info. Their management told them they would be getting a certain amount of money for each show but what their mangement forgot to tell them was that amount had to get divided between them Jean, Soul Purpose and Pumkin Head, hotels & gas money. If Can-Ox had known that from the jump they would have never agreed to go on a month long tour especially when they are both working on their solo projects here in NYC. Plus what kind of tour are you going on when a day before you leave you get the list of "proposed" dates and venues. The tour was fucked up and cancelled due to mangement problems not because of Can-Ox. The group is still together and working on an EP. I find it funny how Jean's mngmt seems to be blaming this whole thing on Can-Ox when it was her own mngmt who fucked up her tour.

Can this be?
How have the mighty fallen?
Why no official word from DefJux?
A light has been extinguished in Hip-Hop and angels must mourn!
I don't care what anyone says, they were the brightest, present example of the life and living of our culture! If this is true, may there be a reconciliation. Who cares about Jay-Z's "retirement" (can anyone say marketing bullshit!) When this is the true biggest story in Hip-Hop music.
